Hemp Seed Oil vs. CBD Oil

Both Hemp seed oil and cannabidiol (CBD) oil are extracted from the cannabis Sativa plant species. Hemp seed oil, however, contains less than 0.3% THC, whereas CBD oil does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Also, the hemp seed oil is extracted from the hemp plant seeds, whereas CBD can be extracted from the leaves, stalks, or flowers of the Cannabis and hemp plant.

Both are similar in many ways, but at the same time differ from one another. One can use both oil types for food and beauty.

Continue reading our blog to learn about their similarities and differences in detail. Further, we have highlighted their benefits, risks, and other information that can be of great importance to you in the future.

What Is Hemp Seed Oil?

These are the extracts from the hemp plant seeds containing 70 to 90% of polyunsaturated fatty acids, omega-3 essential fatty acids, tocopherols, linoleic acid, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and CBD oil based on how the seeds are handled and processed as per a report shared by Oklahoma State University. It has a nutty flavor and is also used for consumption. Companies that sell the product for consumption must contain 0.3% or less THC, which is known to cause no psychoactive effects.

Companies that produce hemp seed oils must adhere to strict guidelines. These are small, nutritious seeds and a rich source of Vitamin E and minerals. Further, hemp seed oils reduce anxiety levels, grant more energy, good for digestion, and reduce pain and stress.

How Is It Made?

Hemp plant seeds are cold pressed and used for extracting hemp seed oil. After extraction, the oil is properly stored in a cool and dark place for processing. Later, it is shipped to other countries in the same stored (cool and dark) boxes.

Uses of Hemp Seed Oil

One can use hemp seed oil as culinary oil for enhanced flavor or can be sprinkled on vegetables or salad. As a result, you will directly intake dietary supplements rich in polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Also, its drying properties make it a great product resulting in using it as paint, coating materials, and other industrial use.

Further, some people also use it for plastic floorings, such as linoleum.

Potential Benefits of Hemp Seed Oil

There are a few more benefits to hemp seed oil such as they boost omega intake. The unique composition of 3:1 omega-6 (linoleic) and omega-3 (alpha-linolenic) essential fatty acids in the oil contribute to better skin health and a heart condition.

Also, it helps maintain healthy blood pressure and reduces PMS symptoms, excessive pain, and inflammation.

Here is the nutritional profile of the hemp seed oil:

  • Potassium
  • Phosphorus
  • Carotene
  • Chlorophyll
  • Omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9
  • Vitamin E and other antioxidants
  • Calcium
  • Sulfur
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Iron

Potential Risks and Side Effects

The oil may go rancid due to its fat composition. If you try to fry it, it may vaporize or ignite for it has a relatively low flash point. Thus, meaning Hemp Seed Oil is not a suitable product for frying, instead must be consumed raw when fresh.

Also, storing it is a difficult task. The fatty acid present in the oil increase the risk of oxidative deterioration, i.e., degrades when exposed to oxygen. Hence, experts recommend using the oil below 300 degrees Fahrenheit or 150 degrees Celsius temperature. Also, for storing, it is best to keep the oil in the refrigerator or freezer after opening the box.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD is one of the popular ingredients of the cannabis plant used for several health issues. It does not contain THC making it a non-toxic active constituent of the cannabis plant. Derived from the leaves, stalks, and flowers of hemp and cannabis plants, the plant compound can be used in oils and edibles for transmitting a sense of calmness.

Researchers have stated that one can overcome chronic health conditions with a proper dosage of CBD. The Cannabinoids communicate with the endocannabinoid system responsible for managing physiological balance, i.e., mood, appetite, sleep, immune system functioning, and more.

You can consume it directly as a CBD product or naturally produce it via endocannabinoids. After the intake, the CBD oil interacts with the endocannabinoid system and neurotransmitters that help create a good impact on mood regulation, stress, and inflammation.

How Is It Made?

CBD oil is made from an extraction that generates high cannabinoid content. Experts say that to make CBD oil a good product, hemp extract is added to the carrier oil.

Medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil is one of the common carrier oil used with CBD. It is made from coconut; however, you can also use carriers made from sunflower oil, almond, or vegetables.

After pairing, you should focus on the potency of the carrier oil. The potency updates on the product’s strength are determined based on the amount of CBD content present in the product.

After reaching the desired potency, more ingredients are added to the oil based on its intended use. For example, rose hip seed oil and jojoba oil are used for patients suffering from inflammation or skin hydration.

Uses of CBD Oil

Most companies are adding CBD oil to their products. Even pet doctors, and beauticians, are jumping to use CBD in their products. You can also find many pain-relieving creams online that include CBD and are used for improving sleep or anxiety.

Potential Benefits

CBD is known to maintain a body’s natural balance as per various reports. It helps activate the core receptors (known as CB1 and CB2) on interaction with the endocannabinoid system, further helping improve mood, temperature, and cognitive function. Also, is a great product for muscle repair.

Experts are still experimenting and trying to learn more about CBD and its uses. But, as per past studies, it is known to treat or improve the following health conditions:

  • Cancer
  • Skin Health
  • Insomnia issue
  • Digestion problems
  • Inflammation
  • Oxidative stress
  • Acute and Chronic pain
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Hypertension and heart
  • disease
  • Seizures that occur from epilepsy and related conditions
  • Psychiatric and neurologic conditions
  • Weight management

Potential Risks and Side Effects

As per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) report, CBD oil is also known to have  several potential risks, including:

  • Mood changes like irritation or agitation
  • Gastrointestinal distress
  • Alertness changes during its use
  • Potential liver injury
  • Negative drug interactions
  • Risk of sedation and drowsiness when used with alcohol

More research is needed, especially to learn about its impact on use over a sustained period of time, the dosage that triggers risks, consumption methods impact, and CBD’s effect on a developing fetus or a breastfed newborn, or a developing brain.
