Follow some of the natural methods to improve eyesight:

1. Add more key vitamins and minerals to your diet

Prevent macular degeneration, a health condition in which the eye part responsible for controlling vision deteriorates. Eat more and more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins A, C, and E. Further, add minerals like zinc that contain antioxidants to improve this condition. There are a variety of vegetables and fruits one can choose from such as red pepper, carrots, strawberries, sweet potato, spinach, broccoli, and citrus fruits.

Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids are also beneficial for eye health.

2. Do not miss carotenoids

Carotenoids are naturally occurring pigments found in various leafy green vegetables, broccoli, and eggs. These also play a key role in improving eyesight. You can also consume in the form of supplements that help improve the pigment density found in the retina.

3. Exercise and Stay Fit

If you eat a properly balanced diet and maintain a good weight, you can help your eyes. Patients who are overweight or suffer from Type 2 diabetes can cause damage to blood vessels in the eyes at an early stage. This health condition is also referred to as diabetic retinopathy, under which your body carries too much sugar in the bloodstream. The condition if not treated on time can result in the leaking of blood and fluid into the eye. Thus, harming your vision.

Hence, if you are a Type 2 diabetes patient, visit the doctor for regular checking of blood sugar levels. Prepare a diet chart, eat healthy, stay fit, and trim your odds of developing such complications.

4. Work on your chronic conditions

High blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and many other chronic conditions can affect your eyesight as they cause chronic inflammation in the body. Optic nerve inflammation can result in vision loss and extreme pain. In fact, a few health conditions like multiple sclerosis cannot be prevented but can be managed with proper medication and diet therapy.

5. Make sure to wear protective eyeglasses

Whether you are working online or in your garage, preparing for the science projects, etc., make sure to wear appropriate glasses for all activities if you have weak eyesight. The eyewear can protect you from the risk of chemicals or sharp objects entering your eye.

Make sure your goggles are made from polycarbonate which is tougher compared to other forms of plastic.

Sunglasses not only make you look cool but also helps block UVA and UVB radiation from sunlight. It protects you from health conditions that stem from eye damage such as cataracts, macular degeneration, pterygium, etc.

7. The 20-20-20 rule

When your body and mind work all day, the eyes are also doing the same and demand break. Too much strain can cause pain in the eyes. Hence, we recommend following the 20-20-20 rule, i.e., take a break from the computer screen every 20 minutes or stare at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

8. Avoid Smoking

Smoking is not only bad for the lungs and heart. In fact, it is bad for all your body parts including the eyes. Regular smoking increases the risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration. If you quit the practice of smoking, your blood vessel functions will improve and inflammation will ease off resulting in better eyesight.

Some eye conditions are hereditary and you have no control over them, such as glaucoma, retinal degeneration, optic atrophy, macular degeneration, etc. So, check your family history and take precautions accordingly.

10. Keep your hands and lenses clean

We often pass on germs and infections from our hands to the body. In fact, when you rub your eyes and feel irritation, it is because you passed on some germ or infection with your hand. Hence, it is recommended to always wash hands after eating, coming from outside, or before touching eyes. Also, handle your contact lenses carefully to avoid disinfection.

Replace contact lenses from time to time or it can lead to bacterial infection in the eyes.

People have a thought process that washing hands and eating vegetables is nowhere linked to better eyesight, but let me tell you it all plays a key role.
